VISION Hosts First Awards Show
VISION hosted its first awards show on Saturday, August 16, 2006 at Mounds Park Theater in St. Paul. Featured artists included: Xeev Xwm Vang, Shattered Echo'z, Angela Vang, Chao Chi, Eric Ly, Lisa Lee, and Patrick Henry Freedom Dancers. A special thank you goes out to all performers, volunteer's, nominators, selection committee, and guests. Thanks for making the first year successful. Below are the nominee's and finalists.

Student Outreach - Awards: Melissa Vang |
| |
Phoua Khang, is a member of Asian Media Access and has helped organize a two-day conference, a Cinco Day Mayo event, and was a member of Target Market. Khang is committed to her family and academics. |

Melissa Vang, an upcoming junior, is a member of Venture Crew #53, Patrick Henry Student Council, and Patrick Henry IB program. Vang has completed an intern, a study abroad in France and is currently involved with MCTC Upward Bound Program |

Peter Vue, an upcoming senior, is an aspiring actor and future businessman. He is a peer-to-peer educator, a growing leader, and has managed the Patrick Henry girl's badminton team. Vue is currently involved with Southeast Asian Youth Empowerment Program. |

Community Service - Awards : What About Us |

What About Us (WAU) is a project planned and designed by a group of Hmong girls who wants to utilize multi-media to combat teenage pregnancy and gender inequality in the Hmong community. WAU is organization under Asian Media Access (AMA).

Kathy Mouacheupao is the Programs and Gift Director for C.H.A.T. Mouacheupao also writes for HmongToday. Her ambitions have networked her with local artists and have brought Hmong talent out into the open to perform at mainstream venues and diverse audiences. |

Victor Vang of St.Paul helped organize a boy's basketball league three years ago in the Asian American Community. He currently is using his time teaching refugee kid's football, soccer, and basketball. |

Creative Artist - Awards: Tou Saiko Lee |

Xai Lee is a recent graduate from the University of Minnesota Twin Cities. Lee has written and directed plays for the Hmong Minnesota Student Association (HMSA). Currently Lee is producing a play for the Center for Hmong Arts and Talents (CHAT) Arts Festival this year. |

Tou Saiko Lee is a member of Delicious Venom and Free Inspiring Rising Elements (FIRE). He is the founder of Innovated Community Elevation (ICE) and helps organize monthly Open Mic Nights. Lee is actively involved with the H-Project, which contributes to the organization Hmong Hlub Hmong |

Kong Pheng (Kenneth) Vang is a recent graduate of Arts Institute International of Minneapolis in Computer Animation. Vang has been involved with Validating Inspiring Successful Initiative Outreach and Networking (VISION) and is dedicated to family. Vang is currently seeking a career in 2-D animation. |

Xiongpao Lee is a dedicated member of Hmoob Hlub Hmoob, and helped build the organization, Hmong Mens Circle . Lee is one of the co-founder of the I.C.E. Open Mic, and is currently working as an Upward Bound Program coordinator at Arlington High. |

Nhailee Vang is a refugee liaison at LEAP, an International Academy program that helps refugee students. Vang also works with different groups to prevent them from gang violence, and continues to be an inspiration to many students she works with. |

Musical Talent - Awards: Pada Lor |

Xeev Xwm Vaj, guitarist from the band, Watching Leona, utilizes his talent and time by teaching aspiring artists, and collaborating with other artists. Vaj has volunteered with such organizations as H Project, Center for Hmong Arts and Talents (CHAT), and often performs at I.C.E Open Mics. |

Tou Saiko Lee and Vong Lee, the two brothers of the hip hop group, Delicious Venom is using their music to reach out to communities. They can be seen performing at local venues in the Twin Cities, I.C.E Open Mics events, and contributing to such projects like the H project. |

Pada Lor, singer of the band, Shattered Echoz, is an emerging vocalist and songwriter showcasing her talent to entertain, lead and support the community. Lor recently recorded with her band members for the H project, and spends her time volunteering for Center for Hmong Arts and Talents (CHAT). |

Organization of the Year - Awards South East Asian Community Council (SEACC) |

Hmong American Institute for Learning (HAIL) is a non-profit organization aimed at promoting and preserving Hmong expressive culture. HAIL promotes the work of Hmong writers and artists, and also produces a Hmong literary journal called Paj Ntaub Voice. |

Hmong Hlub Hmong (HHH) is an organization formed by students. Their goal is to educate the Hmong community and the public about the persecution of the Hmong in the jungles of Laos . |

In 1986 the South East Asian Community Council (SEACC) was formed. This non-profit organization was initially formed to help the South East Asian community find public housing, but since then SEACC operates several programs aimed at helping the community grow and prosper. |

Kang Yee Xiong, a Vietnam War Veteran, is a father of 11 children. He currently resides in Saint Paul , MN . During his free time he volunteers for Lao Family Hmong New Year. |

Pa Ying Lee is a mother of 4 children. She currently resides in St. Michaels , MN . During her free time she attends her children's shows and events. |

Mai Chee Vang is a mother of 9 children. She currently resides in Minneapolis , MN . During her free time she creates crafts and participates in craft shows. |

Sportsmanship - Awards I Don't Know (IDK) |

I Don't Know (IDK) started in 2002 by members interested in competing at tournaments when flag football was brought back. IDK has dedicated members, supportive fans, and a growing reputation for their sportsmanship. |

This award is given from the VISION planning committee. The VISION award is given to an individual who VISION feels has validated the concerns of the community, inspired, been successful, taken the initiative, outreached to the community, and have built strong networks to keep the community going further.
